A message from the President

The Australian Performing Arts Grammar School (APGS) is an amazing and different place, a vibrant and dynamic school dedicated to helping students develop holistically through the wonderful medium of performing arts education.

I am delighted to have founded a school where learning is now experienced not only as classes, methods and means to an end, but as a way of life built on guidance and support; where staff and students feel a part of a family where each individual is nurtured and encouraged to develop his or her abilities to their richest, most personal fruition.

APGS continues to benefit today from its ability to attract high end personnel who are able to share the same vision of and enthusiasm for the future. With this in mind, we currently boast some of the highest calibre teaching staff and seasoned industry professionals committed to sharing the invaluable knowledge and experience they have gained in their careers with our students. The highest standards are sought and every opportunity is afforded to all students to extend their capabilities to the full.

The best way to learn about APGS is to see us in action, either at our Open Days and performance events, or by arranging a visit with the Principal. I trust you will find this information useful and look forward to seeing you at APGS in the near future.

Introduction from the Principal

It is with great excitement and pride that I take up the position of Head of School at APGS in 2011.

Over the last six years APGS has established itself as a niche learning environment for unique young people who have identified specific choices in their learning pathways to explore and expand on their performance talents – be it drama, dance, music or art. Successful with this initial goal of APGS it is now time to for the school to move forward and maximize all the advantages of a small school with extraordinary talent.

One of the great advantages of a small school is that we are afforded an opportunity for each student to be nurtured in and extended through and a solid academic and performing arts programme. This, I believe, is not only an essential part of any learning programme but is especially relevant for our young people who have not yet had the opportunity to explore the range of possibilities beyond their school years.

I believe the key to success, in life - and by success, I mean being able to be the "unique you"- is not what you choose to do or not to do, but rather being able to make those choices. Providing our students, your sons and daughters, with the opportunity to make these choices is what I envisage as the next step for our students at APGS. I want to enable our students to achieve solid academic outcomes to supplement their passion for performance so that they are in a position to survey their post school opportunities and choose their tertiary pathway with confidence.

We will take APGS into the next cycle with plans for growth, with plans to tailor and extend the academic rigour of our programmes and with plans to continue to develop and highlight the expertise and passion in the performing arts arena.

Students at APGS will be supported in a positive, rewarding and enriching environment which recognizes their individuality and individual potential. We will also elevate our profile on both stages – performance and academic and the young men and women who are fortunate enough to have the APGS experience will be proud alumni and ambassadors of the APGS community.

For students and families with a passion for performance, I look forward to welcoming you to be part of a strong, vibrant, passionate and successful community where we will be proud of each individual, all our achievements and known for our uniqueness.
